Policy on Communicating in Languages Other Than English
Policy Statement
Sports Leaders UK seeks to encourage the widest possible access
to its qualifications. It is also a charity and does this
first and foremost by maintaining its fees and charges at levels
that are as accessible to as many parts of the community as
possible, providing modest grant aid where possible and where there
is greatest proven need. Sports Leaders UK will do all it can,
within its financial constraints of operation, to support
individuals requiring learning and assessment materials and
assessment and verification services in languages other than
English, where this is a barrier to participation in the
qualifications.
What this means
In practice this means that there are a limited range of support
activities that Sports Leaders UK can undertake, where there is a
demand, although provision cannot be guaranteed. Sports
Leaders UK are committed to actively seeking funding to support the
production of assessment, verification, training and promotional
materials* in languages other than English, including:
- The promotion of materials* on the Sports
Leaders UK's website, wherever possible at a cost that is no more
than standard advertised rates.
- Actively seek the services of appropriately trained and skilled
assessors and verifiers to support assessment and verification in
languages other than English.
Sports Leaders UK must approve all translated
materials* for comparative translation to ensure
that consistency of language is maintained that explains identical
demands on candidates. Approval must be applied for before any
materials* can be used for assessment.
Associated policies
Working in languages other than English is linked to Sports
Leaders UK's Equity Policy.
*Materials refer to Sports Leaders UK documents
and may include candidate Records of Achievement, Tutors Resource
Packs, Tutor Training handouts, certificates and the Approved
Assessment Manual.
