Sports Leaders UK offer a bridging package that will allow
a learner who has successfully completed a Sports Leaders UK
qualification at a certain level to complete another Sports Leaders
UK qualification at the same level, where both qualifications share
a number of identical units.
Being able to bridge from one qualification to another will mean
that learners will not have to duplicate learning, whilst giving
them the opportunity to expand their knowledge and potential as a
leader in different environments.
Bridging is only relevant between qualifications that sit at the
same level, and share units.
It is currently possible for a learner:
- who has successfully completed the Level 3 Award in Day Walk
Leadership to 'bridge' to complete the Level 3 Certificate in Basic
Expedition Leadership.
- who has successfully completed the Level 2 Award in Sports
Leadership to 'bridge' to complete the Level 2 Award in Community
Sports Leadership.
- who has successfully completed the Level 2 Award in Community
Sports Leadership to 'bridge' to complete the Level 2 Award in
Sports Leadership.
It is important to note that bridging gives a learner the
opportunity to use units that they have already successfully
completed as part of one qualification, towards the completion of
another qualification at the same level.

Campcraft
for the expedition leader |
There are eight units that make up the Level 3 Award in Day Walk
Leadership. In order to achieve the Level 3 Certificate in Basic
Expedition Leadership, learners must successfully complete these
eight units plus Unit 9 of the Level 3 Certificate in Basic
Expedition Leadership: Unit 9 - Campcraft for the expedition
leader.
As the eight 'common' units have previously been completed, the
bridging course will only consist of Unit 9 - Campcraft for the
expedition leader.
As both qualifications share the same tutor resources and Record
of Achievement, there will be no need to obtain additional copies
in order to complete the bridging course.
In order to bridge from the Level 3 Award in Day Walk Leadership
to the Level 3 Certificate in Basic Expedition Leadership, the
following process must be followed:
- The Centre Course Manager applies for the bridging course using
the normal Course Application Form. State that the course being
applied for is the Level 3 Certificate in Basic Expedition
Leadership, tick the 'bridging' box on Page 2, and indicate how
many learners will be part of the bridging course.
- Devise a course programme showing how Unit 9 - Campcraft for
the expedition leader, will be covered, and submit this along with
the Course Application Form.
- Sports Leaders UK will send the relevant number of
Bridging Learner Registration Forms and Bridging Learner
Certificate Forms, along with a Bridging Independent Assessor Form.
Please Note: Learner Records of Achievement will not be sent
as learners will already have these from their Level 3 Award in Day
Walk Leadership course.
- The Centre Course Manager returns the completed
Bridging Learner Registration Forms to Sports Leaders UK.
- Sports Leaders UK will check that every learner has
previously been certificated for the Level 3 Award in Day Walk
Leadership.
- The Tutor/Assessor will deliver the bridging course (Unit 9) to
the learners, using the guidance and resources from the Tutor
Resource Pack to help.
- The bridging course will be internally assessed as normal, and
the Tutor/Assessor will record their assessment decisions on the
Internal Assessment Record. This may mean completing Unit 9 of the
Internal Assessment Record that was used for the Level 3 Award in
Day Walk Leadership course, or downloading and completing a new
Internal Assessment Record.
- The bridging course will be internally verified as normal. The
Internal Verification Record will be downloaded in the usual
way.
- The bridging course will be independently assessed as normal,
with the Independent Assessor completing the Bridging Independent
Assessor Form that was sent by Sports Leaders UK at the start of
the course.
- For each learner who successfully completes the bridging
course, the Tutor/Assessor will complete a Bridging Learner
Certification Form confirming the following, and return it to
Sports Leaders UK:
- Unit 9 has been achieved
- the learner has a current and valid First Aid certificate
(eight hours)
- the Independent Assessor has been involved
- the Leadership Log has been completed.
- Sports Leaders UK will send certificates for each successful
learner.
- The bridging course will be externally verified as part of
Sports Leaders UK's sampling system.
- The Tutor/Assessor will be expected to retain copies of minimum
evidence for the bridging course for at least three years.

- Units 1, 2, 6 and 7 are common to both qualifications,
therefore a learner wishing to bridge from one Level 2
qualification to another will not have to repeat these units.
- In order to gain the Level 2 Award in Community Sports
Leadership, a qualified Level 2 Sports Leader must
complete Units 3, 4 and 5 from the Level 2 Award in Community
Sports Leadership.
- In order to gain the Level 2 Award in Sports Leadership, a
qualified Community Sports Leader must complete Units 4,
5 and 8 of the Level 2 Award in Sports Leadership.
- Learners wishing to bridge from the Level 2 Award in Community
Sports Leadership to the Level 2 Award in Sports
Leadership will not have to complete
Unit 3 - Lead activities that promote a healthy lifestyle, as this
is a Level 1 unit and they will already hold a Level 2
equivalent to this unit.
- All learners who are bridging from/to either Level 2
qualification must carry out 10 hours demonstration of leadership
in either the wider or immediate community. This gives them the
opportunity to put into practice the knowledge, experience and
skills they will have learnt during the additional units. These 10
hours must happen at the end of the bridging course.
- Learners who are bridging from the Level 2 Award in Sports
Leadership to the Level 2 Award in Community Sports Leadership must
gain a current and valid First Aid certificate.
In order to bridge from the Level 2 Award in Sports Leadership
to the Level 2 Award in Community Sports Leadership or vice versa,
the following process must be followed:
- There are different tutor resources for each Level 2
qualification, so the Tutor/Assessor will need to make sure they
obtain the relevant activation codes for the Qualifications That
Change Lives CD-ROM Tutor Resource in order to have access to the
necessary teaching materials and resources.
- The Centre Course Manager applies for the bridging course using
the normal Course Application Form. State the name of the course
being applied for, tick the 'bridging' box on Page 2, and indicate
how many learners will be part of the bridging course.
- Sports Leaders UK will send the relevant number of learner
Records of Achievement, Bridging Learner Registration Forms
and Bridging Learner Certification Forms.
- The Centre Course Manager returns the completed
Bridging Learner Registration Forms to Sports Leaders UK.
- Sports Leaders UK will check that every learner has
previously been certificated for the Level 2 qualification they are
bridging from.
- The Tutor/Assessor will deliver the bridging course to the
learners, using the guidance and resources from the Tutor Resource
Pack as normal.
- The bridging course will be internally assessed as normal
and the Tutor/Assessor will record their assessment decisions on
the Internal Assessment Record.
- The bridging course will be internally verified as normal. The
Internal Verification Record can be downloaded in the usual
way.
- The bridging course will be independently assessed as normal,
with the Independent Assessor completing the Independent Assessor
Form in the learner Record of Achievement.
- For each learner who successfully completes the bridging
course, the Tutor/Assessor will complete a Bridging Learner
Certification Form confirming the following, and return it to
Sports Leaders UK:
- all/some of the bridging units have been achieved
- the learner has a current and valid First Aid certificate
(if bridging to the Level 2 Award in Community Sports
Leadership)
- the Independent Assessor has been involved
- the Leadership Log has been completed.
- Sports Leaders UK will send certificates for each successful
learner.
- The bridging course will be externally verified as part of
Sports Leaders UK's sampling system.
- The Tutor/Assessor will be expected to retain copies of minimum
evidence for the bridging course for at least three years.
