Overview Of Roles And Responsibilities
The following gives a brief overview of the roles and
responsiblities of individuals involved when running a Sports
Leaders UK course. For further information on specific roles or the
Approved Assessment Centre (AAC), please refer to the AAC
Manual.
Approved Assessment Centre
Any organisation that wishes to deliver Sports Leaders UK
qualifications must first apply for Approved Assessment Centre
status.
An Approved Assessment Centre is an organisation that is
approved by Sports Leaders UK to deliver its qualifications which
may include schools, colleges, local authorities, prisons, youth
and community groups.
Any organisation that applies to become an Approved Assessment
Centre must demonstrate that it can provide a safe and appropriate
environment in which learners can learn, and that it can adhere to
Sports Leaders UK's standards. Please refer to the AAC Manual to
find out more information on how to become an Approved Assessment
Centre.
Centre Course Manager (CCM)
The Centre Course Manager co-ordinates the delivery of all
Sports Leaders UK qualifications within the Approved Assessment
Centre. They act as the point of contact between Sports Leaders UK
and the Approved Assessment Centre, and receive all correspondence
(for example Records of Achievement, Technical Updates, invoices
and letters) from Sports Leaders UK.
Tutor/Assessor (T/A)
The Tutor/Assessor is the person who is responsible for the
tutoring (delivery) and assessment of the qualification. Full

Independent Assessor (IA)
The Independent Assessor is the person who assesses the learners
on the demonstration of leadership section within the course. Full
details of the role and responsibilities of the Independent
Assessor can be found in the AAC Manual.
Internal Verifier (IV)
The Internal Verifier will verify assessment decisions that the
Tutor/Assessor makes by verifying a sample of learners from the
cohort against the Assessment Criteria, for a minimum of one unit
of the qualification. Full details of the role and responsibilities

Quality Assurance Officer (QAO)
The Quality Assurance Officer is appointed by Sports Leaders UK
and will visit Approved Assessment Centres to check that all
assessments and verification of learners has been fair, valid and
objective. A Quality Assurance Officer's role is also to ensure
that centre staff, including the Tutor/Assessr and the Internal
Verifier, are maintaining standards and following procedures to
protect the integrity of the qualification(s) wherever they are
delivered.

delivery and assessment of the Sports Leaders UK Level 3 Award in
Day Walk Leadership and the Level 3 Certificate in Basic Expedition
