Level 3 Award in Day Walk Leadership (DWL3) CPD
Level 3 Certificate in Basic Expedition Leadership (BEL3) CPD

This is a full day (09:15 to 16:00) that focuses on giving information to experienced tutors of the Level 3 Award in Day Walk Leadership, and the Level 3 Certificate in Basic Expedition Leadership. The information and ideas are disseminated through various briefings and activities.

Who is the day for?

The training day is for tutors that have attended the Level 3 Award in Day Walk Leadership, and the Level 3 Certificate in Basic Expedition Leadership training previously, and/or have had experience of delivering DWL/BEL courses since they became Level 3 qualifications in September 2010.

Please note that anybody wishing to be the main course Tutor/Assessor, needs to be a summer-qualified Mountain Leader or Walking Group Leader. Your learners must be aged 17 years or older to register for the qualification, and aged 18 years or older before they can complete the qualifications.

What is the aim of this day?

  • Sharing good practice
    • Tutors are encouraged to be willing to share good practice experiences and other ideas/activities from courses they have been involved with previously.
  • Updates
    • Tutors will hear about any updates that are relevant to these qualifications.
  • Quality Assurance message
    • A reminder of the Quality Assurance processes that are in place and paperwork requirements.
    • The role of the Internal Verifier (IV).
  • Practical outdoor session looking at assessment
    • Please come prepared to go outside for half of the day.

What needs to be done before attending the day?

Please think of some examples that you might be willing to share with others that relate to either good or bad practice during your delivery experiences (we all learn from making mistakes, and young leaders often learn more from the bad examples than the good ones!).

You will need to come equipped with some of your best delivery ideas associated with the qualifications, and be willing to share them amongst the group. For example group activities, discussion tasks. It is up to you what you would like to address - so bring your ideas and examples used so far.
