Pre-Reading for Sports Leaders UK Tutor Training
Thank you for taking the time to prepare for the Continuous
Professional Development (CPD) you are about to attend with
Sports Leaders UK. This is the start of your
CPD with us and it will not finish at the end of the training
day, that's why we are proud to call it Continuous
Professional Development. Tutor Training for the
leadership qualifications is something that we believe will
better prepare you to deliver a quality course for your
learners. Therefore we have suggested you read the following
so that you are more aware of what will be covered on a training
day, and better informed about the workshops on
offer. Once prepared you can attend the day equipped with
questions relevant to you, your centre and your potential
learners.
The Tutor Training day will hopefully give you plenty of
guidance and new ideas about how you can teach leadership through
different mediums such as sport, dance, walking and
expeditions. It is important that you understand that this is
not a training day to teach specific sport, dance, walking
and expedition skills.
Everyone has their own style of delivery when teaching, coaching
and leading. The Sports Leaders UK courses are based on
learner-centred learning. The courses aim for you as
a tutor to 'give away the whistle', and therefore
encourage and teach others to learn to lead.
Collaboration
If you are working at an organisation that currently runs Sports
Leaders UK awards and qualifications, we suggest that you take some
time to chat to the tutor/s that are working in this area. That way
you will get some first hand information about what the aims of
these awards and qualifications are at your centre, and how it's
all going so far. Find out what your role will be and what areas of
the courses you will be expected to deliver when you return
from the training. If your organisation is new to the awards and
qualifications, again spend some time with colleagues and explore
the what, why, when and how, sports leadership
may be valuable to your centre and your learners.
Questions to consider as you prepare
Before attending the Tutor Training day it is important that you
consider the following:
- Do you need training? Are you on the correct training? Go to
the Tutor Training Decision
Tree.
- What age range are you working with? 13+? 14+? 16+? (could
affect which course you deliver)
- What is the aim of introducing the qualification/s?
- How do you plan to recruit learners for your course?
- How much time will you allocate for a course? (check
which qualifications you want to deliver)
- Have you considered 'where next?' for your learners once the
course is completed?
- Are there other organisations that could support/enhance your
course that you could link with?
- What are the top five things you need from this CPD?
- What support can you expect after the training day? Go to the
In Your
Region pages.
Personal considerations
It is also important that you ask the following personal
questions about yourself:
- What are your current main styles of teaching, leading,
coaching?
- What are your current practices regarding assessment?
- Will you be in a position to share what you learn with your
colleagues when you return?
Our Tutor Training aims
Sports Leaders UK through Tutor Training aims to inspire and
motivate you to:
- Consider your teaching and learning practices especially in the
area of leadership.
- Apply to run a course/s from our suite of awards and
qualifications.
- Utilise the support on offer through our regional teams.
- Continue to engage with other colleagues to share your teaching
experiences.
Your expectations
Your expectations can only be measured if you have identified
them prior to attending the training, so it would be useful if you
now go on to read through the variety of information available
about:
- Timetable of the day.
- Content of the day.
Once you have read the information, spend some time thinking
about what you would like to gain from the training day.
What next?
Previous to starting the pre-reading you may have decided which
training day is most appropriate to you, or this may have occurred
after speaking with colleagues, managers and peers.
Please follow the relevant link in the menu
on the left-hand side of this page to continue your
preparation for the day.
